Shiny Doshi Recalls Domestic Violence At Home, Talks About Traumatic Childhood: 'Maa Ne Laatein Khayi, Used To Be Scared'

Television actress Shiny Doshi opened up about her traumatic childhood, sharing how domestic violence at home, with her father hitting her mother, left her and her brother so scared that they would often lock themselves in their room. She shared that her parents would fight 90% of the time, and her mother had no freedom to work. The actress also revealed how, back then, divorce was considered taboo, making it difficult for her mother to leave the situation.

Appearing on Siddharth Kannan's podcast, Shiny said, "My father used to hit my mother. Meri maa ne laatein bhi khayi hain, ghussey bhi. I used to be scared, aur theek nahi lagta tha. Isliye main apne aap ko lock kar dete the. Main unko samjhane ki koshish karti thi, kyunki papa sirf meri sunte the. Mera childhood ek disaster tha."

She shared that when people would ask her about her father, she would often lie, feeling ashamed to reveal her reality or the financial struggles her family faced. She would fabricate stories about her father's whereabouts and claim that they had a lot of money, when in fact, they did not. It was all just a cover-up. However, over time, she found the courage to speak out and share the truth about her life.

Further, Shiny shared how she would plead with her father to stop the domestic violence against her mother, and he would listen to her, as she was the only person he would listen to. However, it would only last for about 10 days before the cycle of abuse would begin again.

"Main bahut koshish karti thi ki hum ek family ban jaayein. But kabhi ho hi nahi paaya. I think woh dono kabhi compatible hi nahi the. Shaadi ke baad jab bacche hote hain, zindagi apne tareeke se sikha deti hai. Lekin bacchon ke nazariye se jeena aur bhi zaroori hota hai—kyunki woh future hain. Aur us bacche ke mann par kya asar pad raha hai, yeh samajhna bahut zaroori hota hai," added the actress.
