Electricity bills increase: The people of Delhi are going to get a big shock. Officials have said that the electricity bills of consumers will increase by 7 to 10 percent in the period of May-June. DERC has given permission for this to all three power distribution companies.

Due to changes in the PPAC charges by the power distribution companies, the electricity bills of electricity consumers in Delhi will increase by 7 to 10 percent in the period of May-June. Officials gave this information on Sunday.

Power Purchase Adjustment Charge (PPAC) refers to the increase incurred by generation companies due to increase in fuel costs like coal and gas. It is recovered by power distribution companies from consumers. It is added as a percentage to the fixed charge of the electricity bill and the energy charge (how many units of electricity were used).

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) had allowed the three power distribution companies to recover the Power Purchase Adjustment Charge (PPAC) incurred between October to December 2024 from the consumers in May-June 2025.

The PPAC rates have been fixed at 7.25 per cent for BRPL, 8.11 per cent for BYPL and 10.47 per cent for TPDDL. There has been no response from the power distribution companies on this increase approved by DERC.
