'Once I'm Done, I'll Be Gone': Virat Kohli's Poignant Video From 2024 Viral As India Star Draws Curtains On His Test Career
With Virat Kohli retiring from Test cricket and the news causing a stir among the cricketing fraternity, the 36-year-old's clip relating to retirement from last year has been going viral. Amid IPL 2024, the star Indian batter revealed that fans won't see him for a while as he will be gone.
On May 10, Saturday, reports had emerged that the 36-year-old had communicated to the BCCI about wanting to retire from Test cricket. On Monday, the veteran put out a lengthy Instagram post, claiming how it was not easy to walk off from the format. However, Kohli said the timing feels right and is proud of everything he gave for.
In a video that dates back to May 16, 2024, Kohli had said he doesn't wish to have any regret at the end of his career and wishes to give it all.
"We do have an end date to our careers, so I'm just working backwards. I don't want to finish my career, thinking I might have done this or that on a particular day, keep going on and on forever. So, it's about not leaving any undone business behind and not having any regrets later, which I'm very sure I won't. Once I'm done, I'll be gone, you won't see me for a while. So, I want to give it everything I have till the time I play."
Virat Kohli last played a Test against Australia in Sydney
Meanwhile, the Delhi-born cricketer's last of the 123 Tests came against Australia in Sydney and made only six runs in his final knock. The entire five-Test series was a dreaded one for Kohli, who started it with a hundred in Perth. However, his returns kept plummeting as the series progressed and eventually finished with 190 runs in nine innings at 23.75.
The former Indian captain finishes his Test career with 9230 runs in 123 Tests at 46.85 alongside 30 centuries. Nevertheless, Kohli's form for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has been sensational as he is currently the fourth-highest run-getter of the tournament with 505 runs in 11 matches at 63.12 with seven half-centuries.
The former RCB captain, who had ushered the franchise to the final in 2016, has put them on sight to break their trophy drought.
