Pune: 18-Year-Old AIIMS Bhopal Student Dies By Suicide In AFMC Bathroom

In a shocking incident in Pune, an 18-year-old student of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal allegedly died by suicide in a bathroom at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in the early hours of Monday due to academic stress, officials said.

According to the police, the student has been identified as Utkarsh Mahadev Shingne, a native of Beed district.

The police said that Utkarsh was among students from multiple colleges across the country who had come to AFMC for a programme.

"The investigation has so far revealed that the deceased student was under academic stress. This may be the reason why he died by suicide in the common bathroom in the AFMC boys’ hostel,” the police added.

They further informed that Utkarsh had sent a purported suicide note on WhatsApp to his family members before allegedly ending his life.

"His death came to light when the family members saw the message in the morning. Subsequently, the control room of the Pune City Police was informed about the incident at around 6:15am. Soon, a team from Wanawadi Police Station rushed to the spot for investigation. The police said the body was taken to a hospital for a postmortem. As per the procedure, an accidental death report was lodged at Wanawadi Police Station and a probe was initiated," they said.

Further probe is underway.
