In the last one month i.e. only in April 2025, Western Railway has collected Rs 21 crore from those without ticket and unbooked luggage. According to Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, a fine of about Rs 21.89 crore has been collected from the passengers who broke the rules within a month. In this, Rs 6 crore was recovered from those traveling without ticket.
More than 3 lakh ticketless passengers caught
According to the railway official, this entire operation was conducted under the supervision of senior commercial officers of the railways, in which the ticket checking team conducted several special checking campaigns. The effect of these campaigns was that in April alone, 3.10 lakh people were caught without tickets or with irregular tickets.
Unbooked luggage also checked
Apart from this, strictness was also taken on carrying unbooked luggage and a large number of fines were collected. Officials said that surprise ticket checking campaigns were conducted especially to prevent ticketless entry in AC local trains. The result was that more than 6,000 ticketless passengers were caught and a fine of Rs 20.24 lakh was collected from them.
He further said that this checking was not limited to Mumbai’s local trains only, but monitoring has also been increased on mail/express and passenger trains as well as holiday special trains.
