Preneet Kaur condoles death of school kids in road accident

Former Union Minister and MP Preneet Kaur, today visited Samana to express her condolences to the families of the school children, who were killed in a road accident on the Samana–Patiala highway. The accident, which occurred on Wednesday, claimed the lives of six school children and a van driver.

Kaur met with the grieving families and inquired about the condition of the injured children, who were undergoing treatment. Speaking to the media, she said, “Losing a child is the most profound pain a family can endure. It is saddening that two children from one family and the only daughter of another family died in the accident. No words can truly console such a loss.”

Raising concerns over the growing menace of illegal and overloaded tipper trucks in the Samana region, Kaur remarked, “The unauthorised tippers continue to operate fearlessly on public roads, endangering innocent lives. Despite repeated tragedies, the government and local administration remain inactive. It is even more disappointing that law enforcement authorities have failed to initiate any effective action against these vehicles.”

She urged the state government to immediately intervene and take strict action against those responsible for such gross negligence. “Prompt action is the need of the hour to prevent further loss of life on roads.”

As per the FIR, tipper driver Bhupinder Singh, a resident of Train village in Pasyana, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The sand-laden tipper was found unfit for plying. The fitness certificate of the vehicle had expired in January 2024, the pollution certificate had lapsed in July 2023 and road tax was not paid since December 31, 2023. The vehicle’s insurance had expired in January 2025 and it carried an outstanding challan issued by the Regional Transport Authority in Yamunanagar in December 2022.
