City gets fire station with 1 lakh litre water storage capacity

Punjab Freedom Fighters and Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat on Monday inaugurated a new fire station at the local Sports and Surgical Complex. The fire station has come up near Mand ammunition depot falling along Kapurthala road, which also remained the target of Pakistan as it sent multiple drones here on May 7-8

The fire station has been constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 1.29 crore. The inauguration ceremony began with the recitation of Sri Sukhmani Sahib. Mayor Vaneet Dhir, District Planning Committee Chairman Amritpal Singh and Municipal Commissioner Gautam Jain were also present.

The minister said the setting up of the fire station would assist in timely control of fire incidents, especially those on its periphery. Bhagat said the area is known for its sports, surgical, leather and rubber industries and having a fire station here would ensure a prompt response in case of any fire-related emergencies.

The minister said the fire station is equipped with a total of four vehicles: one with a capacity of 12,000 litres, two of 6,000 litres each and one rescue tender. Additionally, an underground water storage tank with a capacity of 1 lakh litre has been constructed, supported by a 20-horse power motor.

Bhagat emphasised that the state government had addressed the long-pending demands of people and helped in strengthening the basic infrastructure of both urban and rural areas. He said more development works were in the offing.

Mayor Dhir congratulated the residents on the establishment of the fire station and said this would further strengthen the administration’s capacity to tackle fire incidents. Chairperson of the Fire Brigade Committee Davinderpal Kaur, Divisional Fire Officer Jaswant Singh Kahlon, officials and staff of the Municipal Corporation and fire brigade as well as local industrialists were present during the opening.
