Mumbai Police Constable Slips, Falls Between Train & Platform At CSMT Station; Dies After Being Dragged
Mumbai: A tragic incident occurred at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) early on Monday when a 51-year-old police constable, Dilip Somnath Ahiwale, lost his life after falling into the gap between a moving train and the platform. Ahiwale, who was attached to the DB Marg police station, had finished his night shift and was headed to visit his family in Solapur on his weekly day off.
Ahiwale's Foot Slipped While Attempting To Board Train
The mishap took place around 5:30 am as Ahiwale attempted to board a train on platform number 10. According to a Hindustan Times report citing police records, the constable tried to get onto the train while it was still in motion, hoping to secure a seat before it came to a complete stop. Unfortunately, he lost his balance during the attempt and slipped into the narrow gap between the train and the platform. The moving train dragged him, resulting in severe injuries, particularly to his waist.
Emergency services quickly responded and transported Ahiwale to St. George’s Hospital near the station. However, despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead on arrival. Following the incident, the Government Railway Police (GRP) registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and began routine procedural formalities. A post-mortem examination was conducted before his body was sent to Solapur for final rites. Constable Ahiwale is survived by his wife, four daughters and a 15-year-old son.
Case Filed Against RPF Constable For Allegedly Misbehaving With Passenger
Meanwhile, in another incident, a case was registered against a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable by the CSMT Railway Police on May 12 for allegedly assaulting a passenger and misbehaving with his wife on board the Konkan Kanya Express. The incident occurred on May 6, when Sunny Bhosale, along with his wife and three-year-old daughter, arrived at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to travel to Rajapur in Ratnagiri district.
According to the police, as the family boarded the Konkan Kanya Express, they were confronted by RPF constable Yuvraj Mali, who claimed that the coach they entered was reserved for passengers boarding specifically at CSMT. This led to a heated argument, during which Mali allegedly assaulted Bhosale. He is also accused of pushing and abusing Bhosale’s wife and their child. In the scuffle, the woman’s bangle reportedly broke, causing a bleeding injury. She has also accused the constable of publicly pushing and molesting her.
Initially, Bhosale lodged a complaint at the Rajapur Police Station after reaching his destination. The case has since been transferred to the CSMT Railway Police Station, where formal charges have now been registered against Mali. The constable faces multiple charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for assault, use of criminal force on a woman, and causing hurt.
