As President Donald Trump begins his visit to the Middle East, the United States has approved a large military deal with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to US officials. The deal is valued at USD 1.4 billion and includes military aircraft and related equipment. As reported by Reuters, this includes CH-47F Chinook helicopters, parts for F-16 fighter jets, and support gear. The Pentagon confirmed that the total cost of the deal could reach USD 1.457 billion.

According to the State Department, the agreement includes the sale of six Chinook helicopters, along with engines and other related parts, for around USD 1.32 billion. Officials said this would help support US foreign policy goals and national security.

The F-16 components, meanwhile, are expected to boost the UAE’s ability to protect its borders and meet national defense needs, officials added.

The helicopters will be used by the UAE for tasks such as search and rescue, disaster response, humanitarian missions, and fighting terrorism. US officials described the UAE as an important partner in promoting stability and economic growth in the Middle East.

The main companies involved in the helicopter sale are Boeing and Honeywell, the Pentagon stated. There are no contractors assigned yet for the F-16 parts.

The deal is not final yet and the US Congress has 30 days to raise any objections and possibly block the sale.
