Is your Aadhaar card being misused? This is how you can check…

In the digital age where identity theft is increasing rapidly, it becomes necessary that we keep checking from time to time whether our Aadhaar number is being used for any wrong purpose.

Aadhaar card is one of the most important documents in the country. It is linked to bank accounts, SIM cards and government schemes. The good thing is that UIDAI has provided some tools with the help of which you can see when, where and how your Aadhaar is being used.

You can check from the UIDAI website…

As per the information, first visit the official website of UIDAI https://uidai.gov.in . This is the only secure portal for Aadhaar related services. Do not use any third party or unknown website as it may compromise the security of your data.

Use the “Aadhar Authentication History” tool

Go to the “My Aadhar” section on the website homepage and select the “Aadhar Authentication History” option from there. After this, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the security code that appears on the screen.

Receive OTP…

Click on “Send OTP”. After this, a one-time password (OTP) will be sent to your Aadhaar linked mobile number. Enter that OTP and proceed.

Check your Aadhar Authentication History

Now you will be able to see in which services and places your Aadhaar number has been used. This will include biometric, OTP and demographic authentication. If you see any usage that you have not done, be careful.

What to do if you notice misuse?

If you feel that your Aadhaar has been used in an unauthorized or suspicious manner, contact UIDAI immediately. You can call the toll-free number 1947 or send an email to help@uidai.gov.in . You can also temporarily lock your Aadhaar number from the UIDAI portal until the matter is resolved.
