BBMB staff hold protest against Punjab Govt

Employees of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) held a protest here on Tuesday against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s demand to dissolve the board. They raised slogans against the state government.

BBMB employee union coordinator HS Rana said the board was known across the country for its efficiency in managing dams. Its working was, however, getting hit due to the state government’s attitude.

The Punjab Government has not given its share towards the BBMB budget since January this year. That was hampering the board’s working. The generation bonus of BBMB employees was also stopped following objections by the Punjab Government, he added.

He also alleged that Punjab Government officials were interfering in the working of the BBMB. In case, the state government did not relent, all BBMB employees from Nangal, Talwara and Sundernagar projects would resort to protest, he added.
