Girls outperform boys in CBSE Class X, XII exams
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday declared Class X and Class XII board results with girls outshining boys in both the exams.
A total of 88.39 per cent of students cleared Class XII exams and 93.66 per cent cracked Class X exams.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the students and said, “This is the outcome of your determination, discipline and hard work. Today is also a day to acknowledge the role played by parents, teachers and all others who have contributed to this feat. Wishing Exam Warriors great success in all opportunities that lie ahead.”
He also advised those students who scored low to not to lose confidence. “To those who feel slightly dejected at their scores, I want to tell them: one exam can never define you. Your journey is much bigger and your strengths go far beyond the mark sheet. Stay confident, stay curious because great things await,” said Modi.
Over 1.15 lakh students in Class XII scored above 90 per cent, and 24,867 candidates bagged above 95 per cent, while in Class X over 1.99 lakh candidates scored above 90 per cent and over 45,516 candidates scored above 95 per cent.
While 91 per cent girls cleared the Class XII exams, the pass percentage of boys is 85.7 per cent. In the transgender category, 100 per cent students cleared the exams.
The top five performing regions, Class XII, include Vijayawada (99.60 per cent) Trivandrum (99.32 per cent), Chennai (97.39 per cent), Bengaluru (95.95 per cent) and Delhi West (95.37 per cent).
In Class X, the pass percentage of boys and girls stood at 92.63 per cent and 95 per cent, respectively.
Trivandrum and Vijayawada jointly secured the top position with a pass percentage of 99.79 per cent in the Class X exams. Other high-performing regions included Delhi West (95.24 per cent), Delhi East (95.07 per cent) and Chandigarh (93.71 per cent).
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said girls being better scorers than boys is a strong reflection of an emerging Bharat where aspirations of young women are turning into accomplishments.
