Sirsa varsity part-time, contractual teachers await salaries for 2 months
Teachers working on a part-time basis at Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa, have not received their salaries for the past two months. Despite several requests having been sent to the university administration, no action has been taken so far. The teachers are now facing serious financial difficulties.
The Part-Time Teachers’ Association has once again sent a mail to the university authorities, demanding the immediate release of their pending salaries. Many teachers have also personally written to the administration, highlighting their struggles.
A female part-time teacher from the USGS Department said she had not received her salary for March, and now April had also passed. She wrote that her financial condition was getting worse, and she needed her salary urgently.
Another part-time teacher from the Social Work department shared that she needed money for her children’s school admissions and books but had not received any help. A teacher from the Law department added that not only had he not been paid for two months, but payments for exam duties and paper-checking from the last three years were also still pending.
CDLU currently employs 96 part-time teachers and 62 contractual assistant professors. While regular teachers and non-teaching staff have received their April salaries, part-time and contract teachers are still waiting. Many of them are now struggling to manage household expenses and facing extreme hardship.
Members of the association said they had no other source of income and depended solely on their salaries. They feel the administration is ignoring them. They also raised concerns that because there is no full-time Vice-Chancellor (VC) in place, university officials are not taking their issues seriously. The acting VC, Narsi Ram Bishnoi, also handles VC duties at Guru Jambheshwar University in Hisar, which means he is rarely available at CDLU.
Teachers alleged that while the permanent staff got paid on time, part time and contractual teachers were left to suffer. They demanded the appointment of a full-time VC to ensure proper functioning of the university.
In response, CDLU Registrar Rajesh Bansal said the salary for March had already been sent to the bank and should be credited soon. The April salary was currently being processed. He assured that the university did not intentionally delay any teacher’s salary, but the processing sometimes took time.
Part-time teachers are paid based on the number of lectures they deliver. They are required to submit wage bills through their departments, which are then forwarded to the accounts branch before salaries are released.
