Hit by speeding dumper, woman killed in Mandi

A woman was run over by a speeding dumper and killed at Sundernagar in Mandi district yesterday. Her husband was riding the motorcycle while she was riding pillion when the speeding dumper hit them on the Kiratpur-Manali national highway near Dadour. Lata Devi (41) was killed on the spot.

According to reports, the couple, residents of Bhojpur Bazaar in Sundernagar, was going towards Nerchowk when the dumper while trying to overtake their motorcycle at a high speed, hit them. Due to the impact of the hit Lata Devi to lose balance and fell onto the road and was crushed under the rear wheels of the dumper.

Eyewitnesses informed the police and a team from Sundernagar police station took the body to Nerchowk medical college for a post-mortem examination.

The eyewitnesses said that after the collision, the dumper driver halted the vehicle briefly before fleeing. The police impounded the dumper and launched a manhunt to nab the absconding driver. Mandi SP Sakshi Verma confirmed that a case of hit-and-run had been registered.
