Mayor inspects stalled road work in Jagadhri

Mayor Suman Bahamani inspected an under-construction road from Prakash Chowk to Haryana Engineering College in Jagadhri, being built at a cost of Rs 1.09 crore.

She conducted the inspection after receiving complaints that the construction work had been stalled for several days. On reaching the site, she summoned the contractor of the agency handling the road project, along with officials of the Municipal Corporation Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ).

The Mayor directed the contractor to immediately resume the halted work and to complete the construction as early as possible. She also issued a stern warning that any negligence in the construction would attract strict action against the contractor.

According to sources, residents of Jagadhri had messaged Mayor Bahamani on WhatsApp, alleging that the road work had stopped, causing significant inconvenience to locals, shopkeepers and commuters.

Acting promptly on the complaints, Mayor Bahamani visited the site on Tuesday afternoon with Municipal Councillor Priyank Sharma and Junior Engineer Gagan Sandhu. On inspection, she found construction materials scattered, but no active work underway.

Taking serious note of the public inconvenience, she immediately called the contractor and demanded an explanation for the delay.

“I asked the contractor to get the construction work completed of the road as soon as possible. A fine will also be imposed for not completing the work within the stipulated time period. If any negligence is found in construction work of the road, an action will be taken against him,” said Mayor Bahamani.
