A new chapter for the Man of Steel begins: DC unveils trailer of James Gunn's 'Superman'

James Gunn reboots the iconic superhero franchise ‘Superman’ with the first full trailer ahead of the movie’s theatrical release on July 11, 2025. The most-awaited footage is everything that many fans hoped for, rather than rehashing the old and familiar, instead opting for a bold new reinterpretation of Kal-El, the Man of Steel. It's the first film in DCU’s "Chapter One: Gods and Monsters".
The trailer opens with an intense interview between Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and Superman where she challenges his unauthorised actions in a war on foreign soil. We can see a glimpse of Superman struggling to balance his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing and focusing on doing what is right. New elements such as the Fortress of Solitude, Superman’s famous ice lair and the presence of Krypto the super dog bring fun and light-hearted elements into the intense action movie.
Meanwhile, Lex Luthor delivers a chilling line in the trailer, “He is not a man, he's an it,” showing that he sees himself as the opposite of Superman and finds his powers as a threat. This might hint at an epic clash between the superhero and his nemesis.
Aside from Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, several new actors and characters are unveiled, hinting at a broader universe. Notable appearances include Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardener/ Green Lantern, Isabel Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mister Terrific and Anthony Carrigon as Rex Mason / Metamorpho.
Produced by DC Studios and Peter Safron, the movie is slated to release on July 11, 2025.
