Act Of Apology? Bengaluru Man Donates Part Of Stolen ₹1.51 Cr To God; Incident Viral Months After Chennai Devotee Dropped iPhone In 'Hundi'

In a bizarre incident, a Bengaluru man’s theft ended on a spiritual and apologetic note. Rajesh B N, a 45-year-old driver from the city’s Vyalikaval area, fled with his employer money worth ₹1.51 when he was handed over the same and assigned to deposit the cash at a bank.

Rajesh, who had been working for a chartered accountant in Bengaluru for over a decade, was handed a bag with the hefty sum by his employer on May 5. He was asked to take the money to the bank, instead, he drove the car to a different destination. Probably due to guilt, he visited a nearby temple and donated some money there.

Stolen money donated to God

According to local media, the man spent around ₹1 lakh, and offered a few thousands to God. He walked into a temple and donated a substantial portion of the stolen sum to the temple’s donation box.

While the exact amount he donated is unknown, what happened to the rest remains unreported.

Arrested

He was arrested by the police on Tuesday for absconding with ₹1.51 crore that had been entrusted to him for bank deposit.

Notably, the money once donated to a temple is not recoverable.

This incident has since gone viral.

In a similar incident, last October, a devotee from Chennai had accidentally dropped his iPhone into the ‘hundi’ of the Thiruporur Kandaswamy Temple. Despite his requests, the temple officials made it clear that anything dropped into the donation box belongs to the temple.
