Mumbai Shocker: Unidentified Man Harasses 19-Year-Old College Girl In Broad Daylight On Goregaon Western Railway Local; Probe Underway

Mumbai: A shocking case of harassment of a college-going girl at Goregaon railway station has come to light after her friend shared the incident on social media on Thursday.

The incident reportedly took place in broad daylight while she was commuting on the Western Railway line. Borivali Railway Police have confirmed that they are in the process of recording the girl’s statement and further action will follow. The incident has sparked outrage across the city.

Local trains, often described as Mumbai's lifeline, are increasingly becoming unsafe for women. The 19-year-old girl, a resident of Goregaon and a first-year college student in Vile Parle, boarded a train from Goregaon around 10:30 AM on Wednesday.

According to the social media post shared by her friend, she was seated in the first-class compartment when a man approached the window and began making lewd comments directed at her.

Alarmed, the girl moved away from the window, but the man continued making obscene gestures and uttering vulgar remarks. She tried to record him on her phone, and there were two other women present in the compartment at the time.

The girl's friend, in his post, questioned, “What if this pervert had entered the compartment? What could have happened then?” He also expressed concern about the repeated claims of railway safety for women, stating, “Incidents like these keep happening. My friend travels to college at this time every day—if this can happen in broad daylight, we can only imagine what might happen next.”

Borivali Railway Police said they had taken note of the incident from the social media post and are reviewing CCTV footage. They also plan to contact the girl and record her statement to take the investigation forward.
