MTB Shimla set to kick off with thrilling trails, heritage ride from May 16

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will flag off the 12th edition of MTB Shimla, one of India’s premier mountain biking events, from the iconic Ridge on May 16. The event, organised by the Himalayan Adventure Sports & Tourism Promotion Association (HASTPA), in collaboration with Himachal Tourism and the Cycling Association of Himachal Pradesh, will run from May 16 to 18.

MTB Shimla 2025 will challenge riders with a 120-km course that spans rugged terrain, jeep tracks, meadows, and cross-country routes. The trail takes participants through the scenic Kufri-Chail Wildlife Sanctuary and the Potter’s Hill–Glen Reserve Forest, offering breathtaking views of Himachal Pradesh’s natural beauty.

This year, 100 cyclists from 28 cities across 20 states will compete in the event. One of the major highlights is a 20-kilometre heritage ride on May 16 through the heart of Shimla. “This segment celebrates the hill town’s rich architectural and historical legacy, with enthusiastic participation from local youth and school students,” said Mohit Sood, president of HASTPA.

Sood emphasised that MTB Shimla is more than just a race. “It is a platform to promote eco-tourism, adventure sports and cycling among youth. Himachal Pradesh is fast emerging as a top destination for adventure tourism and mountain biking,” he noted.

Reflecting on HASTPA’s two-decade journey since its founding in 2005, Sood said the organisation has worked tirelessly to position Himachal as a premier cycling destination. “MTB Shimla is an experience that connects adventure, culture, and nature, inspiring young minds to embrace the sport and explore the region’s scenic wonders,” he added.

Entering its 12th year, MTB Shimla continues to foster a community of cyclists, nature lovers, and adventure seekers. It reaffirms its commitment to sustainable tourism, healthy lifestyles, and nurturing cycling talent across the country.
