National Technology Day: Significance of natural bioactive compounds in medicine, emerging role of AI discussed

The CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR-IHBT), Palampur, celebrated National Technology Day with a special event themed YANTRA—Yugantar for Advancing New Technology, Research, and Acceleration. The theme emphasized India’s dedication to self-reliant technological innovation on a global scale.

Dr Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Director of CSIR-IHBT, welcomed dignitaries and attendees, highlighting the transformative role of technology in society. He emphasized CSIR-IHBT’s contributions under the Aroma, Floriculture, and Phytopharmaceutical Missions, which have empowered farmers through modern cultivation and processing techniques.

Chief guest Suchita Singh from Vijya Wellness and Biosciences LLP, New Delhi, delivered a talk on “Molecule to Market: Harnessing the Power of Nature-Derived Bio-actives in Modern Therapeutics”. She underlined the significance of natural bioactive compounds in medicine and the emerging role of artificial intelligence in drug discovery.

On the occasion, CSIR-IHBT signed technology transfer agreements with Vyoum Bio-tech Pvt. Ltd. (Indore), Dharama Kisan Vikas Samiti (Chamba), and Sashanka Agro Tech Pvt. Ltd. (Jharkhand). Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were also signed with Vijya Wellness and Biosciences LLP (New Delhi) and Box and Pots Pvt. Ltd. (Kangra) to foster technology-driven collaborations.

As part of the event, Heeng (asafoetida) plants were distributed to farmers from Kinnaur, promoting local agro-biodiversity and income generation.

The event witnessed participation from scientists, research scholars, institute staff, media representatives, and industry experts, reflecting a unified effort toward scientific and technological progress.
