Police launch school seminars to raise awareness against drug abuse
In a commendable initiative aimed at curbing drug abuse among the youth, anti-drug awareness seminars were organised by Phagwara Police, under the leadership of SP Phagwara Rupinder Kaur Bhatti, in various schools across the region.
SHO City Gaurav Dhir and SHO Rawalpindi Major Singh led the outreach campaign, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from hundreds of students. The focus of the campaign was to educate young minds about the harmful consequences of drug addiction and motivate them to pursue healthy and responsible lifestyles.
The sessions were held in collaboration with school administrations and local authorities, ensuring a coordinated approach to community engagement. Both SHOs addressed students directly, delivering impactful messages on the importance of making informed life choices and resisting the lure of substance abuse.
Speaking at one of the schools, SHO Gaurav Dhir emphasised the urgent need to tackle the growing influence of drugs in society, particularly among adolescents. “The fight against drugs begins with awareness and education. We are here not just to enforce the law, but to guide and protect our children from harmful influences,” he said.
SHO Major Singh highlighted the crucial role of the youth in building a drug-free future. “Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. If we can instil strong values and awareness at this stage, we can prevent the loss of countless lives to addiction,” he noted.
The seminars featured interactive sessions, open discussions and informative presentations addressing the psychological, physical and social impacts of drug use. Students were encouraged to engage, ask questions and share their concerns, fostering a two-way dialogue that helped clarify common misconceptions.
Teachers and school principals praised the initiative, calling it a timely and necessary step in protecting students. “The presence of law enforcement officers speaking directly to children sends a strong message and helps bridge the gap between youth and the police force,” one principal commented.
Parents also expressed their appreciation for the effort, stating that such programs reinforce the values taught both at home and in schools. This campaign is part of a broader community policing strategy focused on crime prevention through education and awareness. Authorities have confirmed that similar initiatives will continue in other schools and colleges in the coming weeks.
