Neeraj Chopra at Doha Diamond League 2025: When and where to watch Indian Olympics medallist LIVE in action

Double Olympics medallist Neeraj Chopra will be back in action in the first major event of the 2025 season as he competes in a star-studded Doha Diamond League 2025 event on Friday night. The Indian javelin star was planning to organise the first-ever ‘Neeraj Chopra Classic’ event at home but that was cancelled for this year due to India-Pakistan tension at the border this month.

Neeraj will be seen competing in the event with Asian Games silver medallist from India – Kishore Jena in the men’s javelin throw event in Doha, Qatar, on Friday night. Apart from the India’s javelin throwers, national record holder Parul Chaudhary is set to compete in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, while Gulveer Singh will make his Diamond League debut in the men’s 5000m event.

Neeraj Chopra is returning to familiar ground in Doha, where he finished second in the 2024 edition and claimed victory in 2023. The Doha meet has traditionally marked the start of his international season, and this will be his second appearance of the year following a strong showing at the Potch Invitational in South Africa in April, where he won with a solid throw of 84.52m.

The Tokyo Olympics gold medallist, who holds the Indian national record with a personal best of 89.94m, will once again attempt to breach the elusive 90m mark. Meanwhile, Jena is looking to rediscover the form that saw him clinch silver at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. The Odisha-born athlete has faced challenges since that high point, finishing ninth in his Diamond League debut in Doha last year.

The men’s javelin field promises to be fiercely competitive, featuring global stars like Grenada’s former world champion Anderson Peters, who edged out Neeraj Chopra by a mere centimetre in the 2024 Doha leg. Apart from Peters, the javelin field also boasts of Jakub Vadlejch of Czech Republic, who won here in 2024 and German duo of Julian Weber and Max Dehning.

However, the Doha Diamond League 2025 will not see a clash of Neeraj Chopra against reigning Olympics champion Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan, who is missing from the field.

In the women’s steeplechase, Parul Chaudhary, the Indian record holder in both the 3000m steeplechase and 5000m, will be aiming to improve upon her 16th-place finish at the Eugene leg of the Diamond League last year. Gulveer Singh, who holds the national 5000m record with a time of 13:11.82 set in Japan, is ready to step onto the Diamond League stage for the first time.

With three athletes competing across major track and field events, this marks the largest Indian contingent ever assembled for a single Diamond League meet.
