Meet actor who worked as barber to insult his mother, started acting at 5, now earns Rs 100 crore per film; His name is…
A famous actor-director recently shared details about his struggles. He said that he started working as a barber to tease his mother. He revealed that the reason behind taking up that job was that he didn’t have the necessary skills as a youngster to get a conventional job. His mother thought he wasn’t doing anything, so he learned the skill of cutting hair.
Under the pressure of his mother, the actor started acting when he was 5. He worked not only in Hindi films but also in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Bengali cinema. Along with regional languages, he also learned English and French, making him India’s first multi-language star. The actor we are talking about, has come in more than 200 movies. He is none other than veteran Kamal Haasan. Even at the age of 70, he is delivering box office hits.
Kamal Haasan reveals surprising stories from his early days
Kamal, in his interview with Hollywood Reporter India, shared how he once insulted his mother during his childhood by becoming a barber. He said, “The person who told me that my best match would be Mr. Balachander was another guru of mine, he was a barber, and he taught me barbering. I worked as a barber at a salon, but that was mostly to taunt my mother because she thought I was doing nothing. I was reading paperbacks and watching cinema, and she said that this isn’t what I should be doing. Given the kind of talent I had, I didn’t find work easily. I thought about what would upset my mother the most, and I became a barber.”
Kamal Haasan also said that famous director K. Balachander was very impressed after hearing his story. Not only this, he also used this story in the climax of his film ‘Zara Si Zindagi’.
When Kamal told the filmmaker he wants to become a director, Balachander said he would spend his life travelling in auto rickshaws if he became a director. “Forget riding an auto rickshaw, I would’ve probably died in one had I not taken his advice,” Kamal said.

Kamal revealed how he ended up taking acting as a career. He said, “That’s how I decided to totally go into acting. If I had made that mistake, he would’ve been right… I’ve seen many of my friends die like that… That is why I am grateful to Mr Balachander, because I could’ve gone down that route. I would’ve died with my angst, with my unfulfilled dreams, in an auto rickshaw. And nobody would know that there is a dead body in the auto rickshaw.”
As per the reports, Haasan has an estimated net worth of Rs 150 crore. He has a hefty fee ranging between Rs 100 to Rs 150 crore per film.
