Right To Water Act Urged As Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Faces Severe Water Crisis—Activists Demand Action!
The residents of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar have established a Nagari Sangharsh Committee to press the demand for creating awareness among the people about enacting the ‘Right to Water’ Act. The committee, led by Dr. Priyanand Agale, recently met the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve, and urged him to table the ‘Right to Water’ bill.
A discussion was held with Danve on the issue, and it was urged that he should take the initiative in enacting the Act.
Dr. Agale said the Right to Water Act will be important to fix the responsibilities of the authorities regarding water. The body responsible for the quality of the water can be held accountable for it. After the enactment of the Act, nobody can shed their responsibilities. ECO Needs Foundation has been working in this regard since 2017. Presently, the water situation is getting more and more severe, and hence it is important to have the ‘Right to Water’ Act.
Committee member Mahes Ninale said that although there is ample water in Jayakwadi, the city is not getting adequate water due to several technical problems.
Vishnu Vakhare said that there are big water tanks in the city, but the residents are not getting enough water. The administration is constructing more water tanks, and it will take around two years. Hence, the residents will have to wait for two more years. Water is not available where there are already water tanks. The water activists discussed various water issues related to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar with Danve.
