ICAR-NDRI student found dead in hostel room, suicide suspected

A female student of Indian Council of Agricultural Research – National Dairy Research Institute (ICAR-NDRI) was found dead in her hostel room on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Vaishali, a native of Unnao in Uttar Pradesh. The police suspect it to be a suicide case and have started an investigation.

According to the police, Vaishali was found hanging in her room. SHO Civil Lines, Shri Bhagwan, said that initial evidence points to suicide, although the exact reason behind the extreme step is yet to be ascertained. He confirmed that the student’s family has been informed, and further investigation is underway.

Officials from Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), along with the crime scene team, visited the spot to collect evidence. Preliminary findings reveal that Vaishali had collected food from the hostel mess but did not consume the meal, which was found untouched in her room.

This incident has sent shockwaves across the students, scientists, and faculty members at the institute. It comes barely three days after another student—a Class 10 girl—reportedly ended her life following her failure in two subjects.
