Indore Municipal Corporation Staff, Shopkeepers’ Argument Turns Violent; Cross FIR's Registered

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): An altercation between Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) employees and shopkeepers in the Rajendra Nagar area escalated into a brawl on Thursday evening.

The fight resulted in an IMC vehicle being damaged. The police have registered cross FIRs based on complaints from the two sides. An investigation is underway.

According to the police complaint of Jayraj Jadhav, the Drainage Inspector at Zonal Office Zone No. 21, he had received a complaint regarding a drainage issue at Dutt Nagar. To resolve the problem, he sent Bharat Jadhav and Mohit Chapri. After some time, the employees called and told him that some people were abusing them.

When Jadhav reached the spot, Raj, Bobby, and others working at a nearby café allegedly hurled casteist slurs at him and his team. Subsequently, Rohit Sharma, Nishant Naidu, Sahil, and Gabbu allegedly assaulted the IMC employees and vandalised the Zonal Officer’s official vehicle (MP09CX0826) with stones and sticks.

During the scuffle, Chapri sustained injuries to his hands. The police registered a case against Raj, Bobby, Rohit Sharma, Nishant Naidu, Gabbu, Sahil, and others under Sections 296, 132, 115(2), 351(3), 191(2), and 191(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Meanwhile, shopkeeper Raj Kaithwas filed a complaint stating that IMC workers Bharat and Monty were cleaning a drainage chamber near his shop. While he was speaking to his younger brother Bobby about the water flowing out, the two workers mistakenly believed he had abused them. They allegedly entered his shop and began abusing him. When he objected, the workers allegedly assaulted him and his brother Bobby, resulting in a shoulder injury.

They also allegedly pulled out the shop counter and threw it outside, damaging both the counter and the goods inside. The police have registered a case against Bharat and Monty under Sections 296, 115(2), 351(3), 3(5), and 324(4) of the BNS.
