Col Sofiya Queeshi Row: Bar ,Top Lawyers Oppose Vijay Shah's FIR Appeal In SC; Hearing Deferred To Monday

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a significant legal development, the Supreme Court Bar Association and several senior advocates have officially intervened in the Supreme Court appeal filed by Minister Vijay Shah, who has challenged the High Court order directing registration of an FIR against him. The FIR pertains to Shah’s controversial remark on Colonel Sofia Qureshi in the context of “Operation Sindoor” against Pakistan.

The matter was scheduled for hearing in SC on Friday, but has now been deferred to Monday following the intervention.

Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh High Court had taken serious note of Shah’s remark and directed police to file an FIR against him. SC, while hearing a preliminary petition, had also observed that Shah, being a public representative, must act responsibly while referring to serving officers of the armed forces.

Additional Advocate General Harmeet Singh Ruprah confirmed the developments, stating, “Senior advocates like Kapil Sibal and others have intervened in Shah’s appeal. The hearing will now take place on Monday.”

Senior advocate Rameshwar Thakur said, “The Supreme Court Bar Association along with senior advocates such as Kapil Sibal and Vivek Tankha have intervened to oppose Vijay Shah’s appeal.

Our concern is that allowing this appeal against the High Court’s FIR order could send a wrong message at a time when our defence forces are engaged in a sensitive operation like Operation Sindoor.”
