‘Modi, Jaishankar lack credibility’: Congress takes a jibe at BJP in its rare praise for Shashi Tharoor after ‘Operation Sindoor’

The Kerala unit of Congress took a jibe at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and said it had to choose Congress MP Shashi Tharoor for its global outreach programme on 'Operation Sindoor', given the "talent vacuum within the BJP". Tharoor is one among the seven MPs who would lead an all-party delegation to partner countries to expose Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.

Interestingly, Congress's praise for Tharoor comes after he was chided by party leadership for his supposedly pro-Modi stand on the military operation against Pakistan. Charging the Narendra Modi-led regime has lost credibility on the global stage, Congress said the Centre had to depend on Tharoor as the "nation needs a voice that commands respect."

"At a time when Prime Minister Modi and his External Affairs Minister have lost credibility internationally, the nation needs a voice that commands respect," Kerala unit of Congress tweeted. " We appreciate the government for recognising the talent vacuum within the BJP and choosing a Congress leader to represent the country. We are confident that Dr @ShashiTharoor  will present India’s case at global level & correct the mistakes made by Modi Govt!" it added.

The Centre on Friday said seven all-party delegations will visit partner countries and present steps taken by India to combat cross-border terrorism. A delegation will present India's stand at the UN Security Council later this month, the Union government said in a statement.

"In the context of Operation Sindoor and India's continued fight against cross-border terrorism, seven all-party delegations are set to visit key partner countries, including members of the UN Security Council later this month. The all-party delegations will project India's national consensus and resolute approach to combating terrorism in all forms and manifestations," the parliamentary affairs ministry said in a statement.

As per the statement, Shashi Tharoor, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Sanjay Kumar Jha, Baijayant Panda, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Supriya Sule and Shrikant Eknath Shinde will lead the delegations. Besides Tharoor, the Centre has reportedly also approached Congress leaders Manish Tewari, Salman Khurshid and Amar Singh for the outreach effort.
