Three Killed In Stone Quarry Blast In Andhra's Srikakulam

Three people have died in a suspected blast at a stone quarry near Dinabandhupuram village in Meliyaputti mandal, raising serious concerns over safety practices and potential misreporting by those operating the site.

The victims have been identified as Pungavenu Arugam (45) from Tamil Nadu, and Tirlangi Ramarao (40) and Badabandu Appanna (35) from Polavaram village in Tekkali mandal. Their bodies were discovered late Thursday night, reportedly scattered across the blast site — suggesting a violent explosion during rock-blasting activities.

According to Meliyaputti Inspector Ramesh, early investigations indicate that the trio, believed to be quarry workers or operators, died during a blasting mishap. A full inquiry is underway to confirm the circumstances and rule out any foul play.

Families Allege 'Cover Up Attempt'

However, the incident has sparked outrage among the victims' families, who allege that quarry officials attempted to cover up the event. The management is accused of attributing the deaths to a lightning strike, and of removing the bodies before police could inspect the scene — a move seen by relatives as an effort to obscure the truth, as per a report on Times of India.

In response to these claims, Pathapatna Inspector Rama Rao and his team have visited the location to gather evidence and speak with locals. Authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and accountability will be established if negligence or wrongdoing is confirmed.

Family members and community residents continue to protest, demanding strict legal action against those responsible for the alleged mishandling of the situation.
