Police investigating spy’s travel history to Pak
The CIA-1 unit has begun investigating the travel history of Noman Ilahi, who was arrested by the Panipat police for allegedly spying for terror outfits and the ISI in Pakistan, to Pakistan.
Ilahi is suspected to be a well-trained ISI spy as he was misleading investigation agencies and not providing proper information, sources said. The police have taken him in seven-day police remand.
The CIA unit seized his passport from his house at Begumpura Bazar in Kairana, Uttar Pradesh, when he was taken there on Friday morning to conduct a search in his house.
After analysing his passport, the team found that it had expired in 2010. However, the accused had claimed that he had visited Pakistan in 2017, the sources said.
The agencies are trying to get all the details about his visit to Pakistan in 2017. They suspect that he either went their illegally or he was misleading them. They are also trying to get the details of people involved in spying along with him at Kairana, or nearby areas in Panipat district, the sources added.
Ilahi’s handler Iqbal Kana did not directly transfer the money to his account for providing information. The money was transferred to the accounts of various people. During the verification, the police have identified over a dozen such people and are scrutinising their accounts. The money was transferred to the accounts from Indian accounts.
Ilahi’s mobile phone would be sent to a laboratory for the recovery of the data that he had deleted.
The police also got some voice messages from his phone, in which the caller was asking him to provide information regarding Army movement by trains to Pathankot and Gurdaspur during Operation Sindoor.
