Pune: PMPML To Fine Drivers ₹2,000 For Traffic Violations, Suspend Repeat Offenders

In a bid to improve the city’s traffic system and ensure the safety and comfort of passengers, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) has implemented strict disciplinary measures against traffic rule violations by its bus drivers and conductors.

As per the new guidelines, any PMPML bus driver found violating traffic rules will face an immediate fine of ₹2,000. In case of repeated offenses, the driver will be suspended. The PMPML administration has already issued an official circular, and the implementation of these rules has begun with immediate effect.

This decision comes after several complaints from passengers regarding common traffic violations by PMPML drivers. Incidents such as not halting buses at designated stops, sudden acceleration or deceleration, taking wrong turns, and failure to maintain lane discipline were causing inconvenience and raising safety concerns among commuters.

Speaking about the initiative, PMPML Chief Transport Manager Satish Gavane stated that the corporation had been receiving complaints and suggestions from passengers, the Aware Citizen Forum, the PMPML Travel Forum, social organizations, and public representatives.

The grievances highlighted issues such as:

  • Talking on mobile phones while driving

  • Stopping buses on zebra crossings

  • Smoking while on duty

  • Not updating the route display boards

  • Lane indiscipline

  • Jumping traffic signals

Taking these concerns seriously, and as per the directives of the Chairman and Managing Director, the PMPML has issued strict instructions to all drivers and conductors to address these issues promptly.

The Key Instructions Issued Are:

  • Drivers must not talk on mobile phones while driving.

  • All traffic rules must be strictly followed.

  • Smoking in or around the bus is strictly prohibited.

  • Buses should be parked properly near designated bus stops to facilitate easy boarding and deboarding.

  • Lane discipline must be observed at all times.

  • Over-speeding is strictly prohibited.

The PMPML administration has made it clear that any failure to comply with these instructions will result in a ₹2,000 fine, and repeated violations will lead to suspension.

This move is expected to enhance commuter safety, ensure better traffic management, and improve the overall efficiency of public transport in Pune.
