Who Is Nusraat Faria? All About Bangladeshi Actress Arrested In Attempted Murder Case

Popular Bangladeshi actress Nusraat Faria was arrested at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday in connected to an attempted murder case. The actress was reportedly flying to Thailand when she was detained at the airport and was not allowed to board the flight.

According to reports, the 31-year-old actress was nabbed after an arrest warrant was issued against her in a case filed on charges of attempted murder during the anti-government protests in Bangladesh in 2024.

Who is Nusraat Faria?

Interestingly, Nusraat shot to fame after she played the role of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, in the 2023 film Mujib: The Making of a Nation. The film was based on the life of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first president of Bangladesh.

The film was a joint venture between India and Bangladesh, and it was directed by late legendary director Shyam Benegal.

Nusraat made her acting debut in 2015 with the Dhallywood film, Aashiqui, in which she shared the screen with acclaimed Bengali actor, Ankush Hazra. She went on to star in several other popular films, including Hero 420, Badsha - The Don, Premi O Premi, among others.

Prior to venturing into acting, Nusraat worked as a radio jockey and also featured in several commercials.

Nusraat Faria attempted murder case

For those unversed, Nusraat is one of the 17 people named in the attempted murder case of a student in Vatara area of Dhaka during the anti-government protests in Bangladesh in 2024. The protests were part of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, a powerful youth-led demonstration that turned violent, and led to the resignation of Sheikh Hasina as PM.

Nusraat's team is yet to issue an official statement on her arrest. The police too have not divulged much details about the arrest.
