There will be an upgrade in AC coaches
Railways has made a big change in its policy and said that now all the vacant seats in the AC coaches of trains will be filled under the auto upgrade facility. This means that passengers who have confirmed tickets in lower categories like Sleeper Class (SL) or Second Seating (2S) can be upgraded to AC coaches at the time of preparation of the first chart of the train. The first reservation charge of the train is usually made four hours before the train departs.
However, after this decision of the Railways, it will now be difficult to get the facility of current booking (CB) in AC coaches. However, this facility will continue as before in Sleeper (SL) and Second Seating (2S). The facility of current booking is for those passengers who want to get tickets at the last moment. This facility is available when some seats remain vacant after the first chart of the train is prepared. Usually this booking can be done up to 30 minutes before the train leaves.
Railway sent order to Zonal Railways
Railway Board has sent this new rule to all Zonal Railways on Thursday. The purpose of this change is that every seat of AC coaches is fully utilized. Also, passengers who have confirmed Tatkal tickets in Sleeper (SL) or Second Seating (2S) will have an increased chance of upgrading to Third AC (3A) or Chair Car (CC).
However, Railway Board has made it clear that auto upgrade will be done only up to two levels. For example, if a passenger has a confirmed ticket in Sleeper (SL), then he can be upgraded only up to Third AC (3A) or Second AC (2A). Similarly, passengers with Second Seating (2S) can get upgrade up to Vistadome 2S or Chair Car (CC).
Apart from this, upgrade in premium classes like First AC (1A) or Executive Class (EC) can be done only from one level down i.e. from 2A to 1A or CC to EC. That means if someone has a ticket for 3A, he will not be upgraded to 1A.
