Fatehabad ‘doctor’ booked for sedition over AI videos mocking PM Modi

An orthopaedic practitioner from Fatehabad has been booked for sedition after allegedly uploading objectionable AI-generated videos mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and promoting pro-Pakistan narratives. The accused, Mushtaq Ahmed, also known as Dr Taj Mohammad, runs a bone-setting clinic in Fatehabad and Ratia and has lived in the region for over 30 years.

The controversy erupted after Ahmed uploaded three edited videos on Facebook on May 14, shortly after a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan was announced on May 10. One video falsely shows PM Modi admitting that attacking Pakistan was a mistake. Another depicts Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif punching Modi, while a third portrays a child-like image of PM Modi being fed milk by US President Donald Trump.

“These videos went viral on local WhatsApp groups and caused public outrage,” said BJP district vice-president Jagdish Rai Sharma, who along with local party leaders lodged a complaint. Sharma alleged, “This is not the first time Ahmed has shown pro-Pakistan behaviour. He burst crackers and distributed sweets after India lost to Pakistan in the 2021 T20 World Cup.”

Initially booked under Section 197(1)(D) of the BNS, the police later invoked Sections 152 and sedition based on the investigation. “The sedition charge was added after evaluating the evidence,” said SP Siddhant Jain.

Ahmed, who was briefly hospitalised, was taken into custody on May 17 and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody in Hisar jail. His bail plea was rejected by a local court on Monday. The police now plan to seek remand to examine his bank and call records.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders have also questioned his medical credentials. “He claims to be an allopath but has no valid certification,” said Sharma.

In a dramatic turn, Ahmed’s wife, sons, and daughters-in-law visited the BJP office on Monday, offering an apology. “We were born in this country and will be buried here,” they reportedly said, asserting the family’s loyalty to India.
