District-Level Sports activities in full swing across J&K

SRINAGAR, May 19: The District-Level Inter-School and Inter-Zone Sports Meets are being actively conducted across Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the region’s commitment to promoting youth sports and a drug-free lifestyle.
In Udhampur, the event was held under the patronage of Director General (DG) of Jammu and Kashmir Department of Youth Services and Sports, Rajinder Singh Tara, with 260 athletes competing in table tennis, basketball, football and chess in U-14 and U-17 categories. Romesh Chander Mishra, DYSSO Udhampur was chief guest on the occasion who emphasized sportsmanship, discipline and the importance of hydration, while endorsing the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
In Ganderbal, Department of Youth Services and Sports concluded U-17 boys’ Chess and Carrom competitions at BHS Arch. Zone Kangan won in Chess, while Zone Ganderbal dominated Carrom. Other sports like Kho-Kho and Kabaddi engaged hundreds, identifying talent for higher-level events.
Budgam saw inclusive sports events led by DYSSO G.H. Lone. Zone Chadoora organized games for specially-abled students, while Narbal hosted Kabaddi and Volleyball tournaments with an anti-drug pledge. Zones B.K. Pora, Beerwah, and Hardpanzoo conducted Carrom events for differently-abled athletes. Zone Magam had 368 girls participating in Volleyball and Kabaddi.
In Shopian, Volleyball and inclusive sports like Cricket, Chess, and Carrom were held across Zones Imamsahib, Vehil and Keegam. In Kishtwar, the Social Welfare and Youth Services departments led a Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan campaign through rallies, talks and awareness drives across Panchayats.
Kathua hosted U-14 girls’ competitions in Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Badminton and Chess. Zone Kathua triumphed in cricket against Hiranagar, while Bhaddu, Bani and Billawar teams excelled in other events.
