Rekha inspects shelter home
To ensure the well-being of the homeless during the peak summer months, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a surprise inspection of a shelter home situated near the Britannia Chowk flyover here on Monday.
During her visit, the Chief Minister assessed key facilities at the shelter, including cleanliness, drinking water, electricity, toilets, bedding, and healthcare provisions. She also held on-the-spot discussions with the residents to understand their concerns.
“No one in Delhi should be forced to sleep on the streets, no matter the season. It is our responsibility to make every shelter dignified, safe and well-equipped,” Gupta said following the inspection.
She termed the effort as part of the broader vision of the “triple-engine” government to ensure shelter, food and dignity for all.
The Chief Minister issued immediate directives to the officials concerned, instructing them to ensure the availability of clean drinking water, functional toilets, weather-appropriate bedding, fans and coolers without delay. She also stressed the importance of maintaining proper lighting and safety within the shelter premises.
Gupta highlighted that the government’s goal is not just to provide shelter but to help the homeless reintegrate into mainstream society through access to social and healthcare services. She called for regular inspections of shelter homes across the Capital and emphasised strict monitoring of food quality served to the residents.
