Bengaluru Rains: Elderly Man, 12-Year-Old Boy Electrocuted Inside Flooded Apartment, Death Toll In Rain-Related Incidents Rises To 3
Bengaluru: Two more people lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Karnataka's capital, Bengaluru, on Monday. The two deaths were reported from the TM Layout. A 12-year-old boy and a 63-year-old man were reportedly while attempting to pump rainwater out of the apartment's basement using a motor.
The incident took place at Madhuvana Apartment located in N.S. Palya, 2nd Stage, BTM Layout. The two have been identified as Manohar Kamat (63) and Dinesh (12). Both were residents of Nepal.
After receiving the information, the Mico Layout police rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to St. John's Hospital.
"Kamath had brought a motor from outside and connected it to a power source to pump out water from the cellar. During this process, he suffered an electric shock due to a short circuit and died," said Sarah Fathima, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South East Division as reported by India Today. The police officer further added that Dinesh, who was helping Kamat, also suffered an electric shock and died on the spot.

Earlier on Monday, a woman succumbed to injuries after a wet compound wall suddenly collapsed on her in Whitefield. She has been identified as Shashikala, an employee of a private company.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that a full-day city inspection would be carried out tomorrow, May 21, along with the Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and Bengaluru MLAs, reported ANI. Shivakumar on Monday said that the BBMP has fixed 70 per cent of the 210 flood-prone areas identified in Bengaluru city, while work on the remaining 30 per cent areas is going on.
