Pune: Hoardings Collapse In Wagholi And Dhanori Amid Heavy Rain; Vehicles Trapped, No Injuries
Pune witnessed two separate incidents of hoarding collapses amidst heavy rain—one in Wagholi and another in Dhanori (Porwal Road).
While no injuries were reported in either case, the Wagholi incident saw several vehicles trapped under the fallen structure. In Dhanori, a hoarding collapsed during a downpour, trapping a few two-wheelers, but all individuals escaped unhurt.
Authorities and fire brigade teams responded quickly at both locations. The incidents have once again raised concerns over the structural integrity and safety compliance of hoardings across the city.
Unauthorized hoardings, exceeding prescribed dimensions and height limits, especially those higher than the ceiling of high-rise buildings or along national highways, pose risks during summer winds and are strictly prohibited to prevent potential loss of life or financial damage.
Last year, 17 people died and 75 were left injured after an illegal hoarding bigger than the size of an Olympic pool collapsed on top of a petrol pump in Mumbai.
Even in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, incidents of hoarding collapses were reported.
