Nightmare fuel 'IT: Welcome to Derry' teaser drops on Max

After a break, Pennywise has officially returned in the new teaser of 'IT: Welcome to Derry', released by Max. The teaser of the highly anticipated prequel series to the 'IT' franchise was released earlier today on X (formerly Twitter), and offers a brief (yet spine-chilling) glimpse into the origins of the evil that haunts the town of Derry in Maine.

The series is set decades before the events of 'IT: Chapter 1' (2017) and 'IT: Chapter 2' (2019), and will dive deep into the dark past of the town of Derry and the rise of the shape-shifting evil entity best known as Pennywise the dancing clown.

Based on Stephen King’s 1986 horror novel of the same name, the show will expand the lore and the fear-fueled cycle of terror that has engulfed the town.

The teaser, clocking about 2 minutes, sets an eerie atmosphere for the story by using unsettling imagery and voiceovers. Iconic elements like the infamous sewer of Derry, rusted pipes and posters of missing children set the stage for the show.

Bill Skarsgård, whose portrayal of Pennywise in the film adaptations earned both praise and terrified reactions, will reprise the role. The rest of the ensemble cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso. The series is co-developed by Andrés Muschietti, the director behind the 'IT' movie franchise, who is also set to direct the first four of the show’s nine episodes.

According to a report by Collider, the show is set to have a 3-season story arc and will likely explore the past incidents of Derry, like the fire in the Black Spot and the massacre of the Bradley Gang that was only mentioned in passing, in the films.

'IT: Welcome to Derry' is expected to premiere on Max in the fall of 2025. Until then, sleep tight and keep an eye on the sewers.
