1,546 Farmer Suicides In Nanded Over 11 Years: Kinwat Taluka Worst-Hit, Government Aid Falls Short

In a shocking revelation, it has been found that 1,546 farmers have committed suicide in the past 11 years due to various reasons in Nanded district. The farmers have committed suicide by consuming poison and by hanging themselves. The government provides financial help to the farmers for the losses of their crop due to natural calamities. However, the aid does not seem to be enough to tackle the losses and are buried under the burden of huge loans. Hence, the farmers opt to commit suicide.

Maximum farmers had committed suicide in large number in Kinwat taluka in Nanded district in the past 11 years. In all, 163 farmers have committed suicide here due to various reasons. According to the government statistics, 1,546 farmers have committed suicides in 16 talukas between the period of 2014 and 2024.

The government implements several schemes to provide financial aid to the farmers. Still, the number of suicides in the district has not reduced. In the first three months of the current year, nine farmers have committed suicides due to various reasons.
