Selja: People suffering, but BJP focused on publicity

Congress MP from Sirsa, Kumari Selja, has criticised the BJP-led Central Government, accusing it of ignoring the real problems of the people. In a press release, she said that while every section of society was facing rising inflation and increasing taxes, the government was busy promoting itself instead of offering relief. She said the middle class was being hit the hardest. Basic needs such as education, healthcare, banking services and daily essentials were becoming unaffordable for the common man.

Kumari Selja pointed out that school fees, books, tuition, uniforms, and transport costs was rising by 10–15 per cent every year. This, she said, was becoming unbearable for parents. “Private institutions are charging heavily and even government schools are no longer affordable,” she said.

The MP also raised concerns about the rising cost of medical treatment. “Healthcare costs are going up by 12–14 per cent each year. The private hospitals are charging heavily and GST on medicines has made treatment nearly impossible for poor families,” she said. Banking services are also becoming costly, she added. “Now, even basic services such as ATM use, SMS alerts and form submissions are being charged,” she said. Kumari Selja also criticised GST on essential items such as milk, curd, flour, rice, and baby food, saying it was adding to the common man’s burden.

“Even owning a vehicle is now a luxury,” she said, pointing to the rising cost of FASTag, insurance and maintenance. “They talk about Digital India, but servers keep on crashing in government departments. People are only facing problems,” she said.
