Licences of 2 doctors suspended

The weekly meeting of the State Task Force (STF) for Improving Sex Ratio in Haryana was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Sudhir Rajpal here today.

Officials were directed to intensify enforcement against illegal abortion practices and take action against doctors found guilty of such violations, including cancellation of their licences.

From May 13 to May 19, 50 inspections had been conducted across the state over the illegal sale of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) kits. As many as 25 MTP centres were closed and three FIRs registered. The MTP licence of a doctor in Kurukshetra and another one in Assandh has been suspended for violation of guidelines.

The number of wholesalers selling the kits has been reduced from 32 to six within one month in Haryana. The sale trend has seen a significant decline in the state.
