FPJ Exclusive Report: Senior Maharashtra Prison Official Accused Of Repeatedly Raping Woman Orderly, Institutional Silence Highlighted

Mumbai: In a shocking revelation, a senior official in the Maharashtra Prison Department has been accused of repeatedly raping a woman orderly. The allegations, detailed in a letter accessed exclusively by The Free Press Journal (FPJ), paint a disturbing picture of abuse of power, sexual exploitation, and institutional silence.

A woman police personnel has come forward with harrowing details of alleged sexual abuse by a senior officer in the Maharashtra Prison Department. In a letter submitted to the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission, the woman has accused the officer of repeatedly raping her by misusing his official position, and claimed that other women employees are also facing similar abuse.

According to the woman, the assaults occurred repeatedly in the VIP suite of the prison department’s guest house. “I am of his daughter’s age, yet he repeatedly raped me by misusing his authority,” the Victim stated in the letter.

The letter, addressed to Maharashtra State Women’s Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar, also claims that the accused official has similarly abused other female staff members in the department. The complainant alleges that his inappropriate conduct towards women is widely known within the prison circle.

The survivor further states that after she refused to continue working as an orderly for him, she was transferred in retaliation and harassed. She has demanded that CCTV footage from the jail premises and guest house be examined as evidence.

Highlighting the atmosphere of fear, she says many other women are too afraid to speak out. She has appealed to intelligence agencies and CID to monitor the officer's movements and investigate further. The Victim has also demanded permanent removal of the accused from service. Despite filing a formal complaint months ago, no action has been taken yet, raising serious questions about the system’s response to such grave allegations.

Authorities are yet to respond publicly to the matter. The case is likely to spark widespread outrage and demands for accountability within the prison administration.

According to the letter, the survivor was assigned routine office tasks such as serving tea and handling files in the officer’s cabin. Over time, she alleges, the officer began asking her to sit in front of him for long hours, particularly late at night when the two were alone in the cabin.

The alleged abuse escalated at the department's guest house, where the officer regularly stayed in the VIP suite. The survivor claims she was forced to bring him meals there, and despite being of his daughter’s age and having no consent, he repeatedly raped her by exploiting his authority.

The letter further alleges that the officer has been sexually assaulting other women employees as well. The survivor points out that there are CCTV cameras installed in both the jail premises and the guest house. She has demanded that police obtain and review the footage from the past month to identify how many women were taken to the VIP suite and investigate the possibility of similar crimes against them.

“Most women are terrified,” the survivor wrote. “They fear losing their jobs because they work under him. I request the intelligence agencies and the CID to monitor him for just fifteen days. In that period, you’ll see how many women he victimizes. He must be permanently removed.”

When contacted by The Free Press Journal, DIG Yogesh Desai said no investigation agency has yet approached him regarding the allegations. He denied the charges and said they are baseless.

The case, now in the public eye, raises alarming questions about workplace safety for women in government departments and the silence that enables such abuse to continue unchecked. Also, during the police investigation, it was revealed that someone else had written a letter using the complainant woman police officer's name, the authorities said.
