Mumbai: 14-Year-Old Girl Addicted To Online Gaming Rescued From Banaras After Being Kidnapped From Goregaon

Mumbai: The Vanrai police, on Tuesday, rescued a 14-year-old girl who was kidnapped after becoming addicted to an online game. The girl was lured to a location in Goregaon East as part of a task in the game, from where she was kidnapped and taken to Banaras, Uttar Pradesh six days ago.

The police suspect the involvement of an 18-year-old boy and a manhunt has been launched. The girl is in a state of shock and further probe is underway.

About The Case

The victim is a Grade 9 student at a reputed school in Goregaon East. Her parents are working professionals, and she often stayed home alone, over time developing the habit of playing ‘Fire Game’, which is currently popular among teenagers.

Nearly three months ago, the girl came in contact with a young man through the game. He began manipulating her and gave her tasks to complete. One such task required her to go to a dumping ground in Goregaon East. Without informing anyone, she went to the deserted location, where she was kidnapped by unknown individuals who were already present.

After she went missing, her parents filed a police complaint. On checking her call detail records (CDR), there were no suspicious or unknown numbers. Her friends also confirmed she was not involved in any relationship. Eventually, the police received a lead that the girl was involved in an online game that assigns real-life tasks to players. They contacted the gaming app company and obtained crucial technical data, which led them to Banaras, from where she was successfully rescued.
