Jammu and Kashmir LG announces govt job to kin of civilians killed in Pakistan shelling

The Jammu and Kashmir administration will provide government jobs to the next of kin of civilians killed in Pakistani shelling during the recent hostilities between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor.
This was announced by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha after meeting the affected families in Poonch, the border district that bore the brunt of Pakistan shelling leaving 13 people dead, including 12-year-old twins, a brother and his sister.
Sinha said the decision was a mark of respect for the civilians who lost their lives in the unprovoked cross-border attack and a step towards ensuring support for their grieving families.
“Civilians who were martyred in the Pakistani shelling will have one family member—preferably the next of kin— provided with a government job,” Sinha said.
He said the administration had already provided maximum possible financial assistance to the families of the deceased and the injured. “No compensation can truly replace a life,” he said. “But the government has ensured that those who have lost their loved ones receive all possible help.”
Sinha said a comprehensive rehabilitation plan would soon be prepared to support those affected. “The Jammu and Kashmir administration is working on identifying such families, and once verification is complete, the process will be fast-tracked,” he said.
Referring to the Pakistani shelling in Pahalgam that killed several innocent civilians, the LG called it a "brutal act" and said the Indian Army had responded with precision and sensitivity during Operation Sindoor. “Our forces ensured that only terrorist facilities were hit, not civilian ones. The country feels proud of the Indian Army for its professional and targeted action,” he said.
Sinha accused Pakistan of targeting civilians and religious places to incite communal tension. “Pakistan must remember the price it paid. If it dares to launch another terrorist attack, it will face an even harsher response,” he warned.
He also praised the civil administration for its swift response. “From top to bottom, all our officers are working without caring for their own lives. I take immense pride in our administration and commend the efforts of brave officers like Raj Kumar Thapa who are helping people selflessly,” Sinha said.
The LG further added that infrastructure along the border will be strengthened under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme and promised that all necessary works will be prioritised to ensure the safety of residents in border areas.
