This will make it easier for customers to identify the concerned bank and calls and messages coming from the bank and will help in preventing fraud.

The new system can be implemented soon

According to the news published in ET, banks have told the government to keep separate calling numbers related to the ‘1600xx’ series. It is expected that this will be implemented soon. Giving information about this, an official said that every bank having its own national calling number and the facility of incoming calls on it will increase both the security and convenience of crores of customers. Discussions have been held with the government and RBI regarding this matter. The next step is expected to be taken soon on this.

RBI had issued the order in January

At present, many numbers of 1600xx series are used to call bank customers. But customers are not able to call back on these numbers. Keeping this problem in mind, RBI had issued an order in January. Under this order, banks will have to use 1600xx number series for transaction related calls and 140xx number series for promotional calls.

There will also be facility of incoming calls on 1600xx numbers!

The bank official said that we have requested for the facility of incoming calls on 1600xx numbers. Also, we have requested for exemption for those customers who have given consent to contact the banks. There is a plan to request exemption for calls related to loan recovery from 1600xx series. This change will make it easier for customers to identify reliable calls. Apart from this, it will also be easy to stop cases of online fraud.
