Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin came down heavily on AIADMK general secretary and opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami for criticising his visit to Delhi on May 24 to take part in the Niti Aayog’s governing council meeting.

In a post on social media platform X, the chief minister said that he was going to the meeting only to “present Tamil Nadu’s rightful financial entitlements,” and asked why it hurts Palaniswami. “Regardless of whether it was Sasikala or Amit Shah, he (Palaniswami) never stopped his habit of crawling under the table to hold their feet. Earlier, he had said that his party would never align with the BJP. Later, he waved a white flag following a raid. Doesn’t he feel ashamed to claim that I have waved the white flag,” Stalin asked in his social media post. Stating that his hands, raised by Annadurai and guided by Karunanidhi, will only hold the black and red flag of the DMK, he clarified that he will always carry the flag of rights and will never crawl.

Stalin also referred to the suit filed by the state government in the Supreme Court demanding the funds withheld by the centre towards the Samagara Siksha Abhiyan to the tune of Rs. 2000 crore in his X post.

Earlier on Tuesday, opposition leader Palaniswami had criticised Stalin saying that he was attending the NitiAayog meeting in Delhi only for “personal reasons.” He said that Stalin was going to Delhi with a white flag to please the rulers in Delhi because of the ED raids on the government-owned liquor retailer. “The Tamil Nadu chief minister who once boasted about boycotting the NITI Aayog meeting, claiming that the central government was avoiding Tamil Nadu, is now suddenly attending the meeting,” Palaniswami noted in his statement. He added that Stalin’s trip to Delhi was for ”family sake” although made in the pretext of official duty.

The opposition AIADMK, incidentally, had stepped up its criticism against the ruling DMK and has been constantly picking up issues from the Anna University sexual abuse case to the latest Arakkonam sexual assault case to build up a narrative against the government.
