Only a strong leader should be made HPCC president: Pratibha Singh
Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Pratibha Singh today said the reins of HPCC should be handed to a strong and influential leader in case the party high command is looking for a change.
“If there is a talk of changing the state party president, we will ask the party high command to choose a strong leader for the job. For the HPCC to function well, it is important that its leadership is given to a leader of tall stature. People should know him and he should have the ability to function as the party president,” said Pratibha Singh. She was talking to the mediapersons while paying tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary.
A few days back, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh had said that a strong mass leader should be made the HPCC president, not any rubber stamp. Pratibha Singh’s tenure as HPCC president has come to an end and there is no clarity yet on whether she would continue or the party high command would bring in some other person.
In a press statement issued yesterday, Pratibha Singh had said that Virbhadra Singh never allowed the sentiments of regionalism and factionalism in the party during his reign but now the party was veering off the path shown by him. While she did not elaborate on the comment, Pratibha Singh did say that the party needs to walk on the path shown by Virbhadra Singh. “No one can forget Virbhadra Singh’s contribution to the party. We should follow the path shown by him,” she said.
Meanwhile, the HPCC president and other party leaders paid tributes to the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at the state Congress headquarters Rajiv Bhawan today.
