Vibrant Village programme puts focus on inclusive growth in remote areas
The Vibrant Village initiative, conducted by 9 Punjab Battalion of NCC Amritsar group, began in Sheikh Bhatti village, Ajnala, just 7 km from the international border. In collaboration with the Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Ajnala, the outreach held on May 20 brought together a vibrant assembly of students, local villagers, government healthcare officials and representatives of the local administration to address issues and work out solutions.
The event emphasised community engagement to foster inclusive growth, bringing new opportunities to remote areas. With objectives like connecting cadets to rural students, engaging with administrative bodies, promoting health through a free medical camp, reinforcing national integration and assisting ex-servicemen and families of serving personnel, the initiative embodied the spirit of service and nation-building. A total of 274 individuals participated, that included representatives from NCC, school staff, Municipal Corporation, healthcare and Asha workers besides local villagers.
The community interaction saw cadets from 9 Punjab Battalion, their CTO (Care Taker Officer) and cadets engage with villagers, especially the youth and elderly on essential topics like Swabhav Swachhta, Sanskaar Swachhta, first aid, civic responsibilities and education. A Swachhta Abhiyan rally was enthusiastically carried out by the cadets. Interaction with local administration, including the Sarpanch, Municipal Corporation staff and health department officials, provided valuable insights. A free health check-up camp, organised with help from the district administration, provided general health check-ups, blood pressure and sugar testing, distribution of free medicines and an awareness lecture on hygiene, nutrition, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and first aid basics. The cadets also benefited from a motivational and educational talk by unit representatives, which included a session on the benefits of NCC and incentives tied to A, B and C certificate holders in higher education and employment. Around 100 villagers directly benefited from the healthcare camp.
