Maharashtra Crowned Overall Champion At 13th Senior National Pencak Silat Championship

Maharashtra emerged victorious at the 13th Senior National Pencak Silat Championship, clinching the prestigious Overall Champion Trophy. The national-level martial arts event, officially recognized by the Indian Pencak Silat Federation, was hosted by the Uttar Pradesh Pencak Silat Association at the K.D. Babu Singh Stadium in Lucknow from May 9 to 12.

The championship saw spirited participation from over 800 athletes representing 28 states, 8 union territories, and the country’s defense forces. Maharashtra led the medal tally with an impressive haul of 6 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze medals. Close behind, Jammu & Kashmir secured the first runner-up position with 3 gold, 6 silver, and 10 bronze medals. Uttar Pradesh followed as the second runner-up with 3 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze medals.

The grand prize distribution ceremony was held in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Girish Chandra Yadav, Arjuna Awardee and former Indian hockey captain R. P. Singh, and National President of the Indian Pencak Silat Federation Kishore Prakash Yewale.

Also present were key office bearers of the organizing committee: Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Pencak Silat Association Anup Gupta, Senior Vice President Sahjanand Rai, and Secretary General of the Indian Pencak Silat Federation Tariq Zargar. They jointly felicitated the winning teams and athletes with trophies and medals.

The successful organization of the event was led by President of Uttar Pradesh Pencak Silat T.P. Havelia, General Secretary Suraj Srivastava, and Working President Jaspal Singh.

Top-performing athletes from this championship have also earned a spot to represent their states in the upcoming Khelo India Beach Games, scheduled from May 19 to 24 at Diu Daman Beach.
